Clipping
Now that winter is here you may want to clip your horse:
Clipping is done:
* To enable a horse to work in winter without undue stress
* To maintain condition by avoiding heavy sweating
* To permit a horse to work longer, faster and better
* To facilitate quicker drying off on return from work
* To save labour in grooming..........and
* To prevent disease
The main types of clips are:
* Full clip - whole coat is removed
* Hunter clip - Hair is left on the legs and a saddle patch is left
on the back
* Blanket clip - Hair is removed only from the head, neck and belly.
A patch corresponding in size to that of a blanket is left on the
body
* Trace clip - Hair is removed from the belly, shoulders and thighs
up to the level at which the traces on a driving harness would run
and is left on the legs as for the hunter clip
* Belly and Gullet clip - Hair is removed from under the belly
upwards between the forlegs and up the lower line of the neck to
the lower jaw
Whichever type of clip you use, blanketing will be needed after its all finished. If you have never clipped before, get an experienced person to help you. They will get you set up with everything you need and.........it's harder than it looks!!!!
HAVE FUN!!!
